Kasahara Emiko
Completed the Graduate School of Fine Arts at Tama Art University in 1988. Using media such as sculpture, objects, photography, moving images, and performance, she develops expressions that question social structures like religiosity, institutions, and colonialism, stemming from themes such as women, the body, and gender differences. Her major projects include “OFFERING,” which documented offering boxes from churches in 85 countries, and “K1001K,” which dealt with wartime ceramic hand grenades. Her work has been presented internationally, including at the 3rd Gwangju Biennale (2000), Yokohama Triennale (2001, 2014), Sydney Biennale (2004), PARASOPHIA: Kyoto International Festival of Contemporary Arts (2015). Her works are held in collections including the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto, Tochigi Prefectural Museum of Fine Arts, Queensland Art Gallery (Brisbane), Berkeley Art Museum (UC Berkeley), The Fogg Museum (Harvard University), Cantor Arts Center (Stanford University), and Deutsche Bank.
